ICT Update magazine is looking for articles for our forthcoming issue on opening access and rights for use. We would like to hear from people working on improving access to digital materials through the adoption of Creative Commons licences and Open Access approaches. Have your Agricultural or rural development program either benefitted from making information available in open access forms or making more materials available with creative commons licences.

The Rockefeller Foundation: CENTENNIAL INNOVATION CHALLENGE
In celebration of our centennial, The Rockefeller Foundation is calling on your ingenuity to chart new paths, paths that will transform the lives of billions working in informal economies across the globe. Submit your idea by April 1, 2013. As many as 10 of the Finalists will be invited to apply for a grant of up to US $100,000 each and win support in proposal writing to enable the further development of submitted ideas.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Yahoo! Fellow in Residence
The Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service is pleased to invite applications for the position of Yahoo! Fellow in Residence for the academic year 2013-2014. This one academic year position is funded by the Yahoo! Fund on International Values, Communications Technology and the Global Internet, which was established at Georgetown University by a gift from Yahoo! Inc. The Yahoo! Fellow will be chosen by Georgetown University from applicants drawn from the government, corporate, non-profit and academic sectors.

MyCOE / SERVIR Initiative in West Africa
The MyCOE / SERVIR Initiative in West Africa is a 10-month fellowship program for undergraduate and graduate students in eligible countries in West Africa who are currently enrolled in any field at an institution of higher education in an eligible country with ideas and plans for research that address themes of Women in Climate Change and Food Security using geographic technologies. Students are invited to propose a research and outreach project and will be competitively selected on the basis of their long-term potential to contribute to these topics in the region.

OFID Scholarship Award 2013/14
OFID (The OPEC Fund for International Development) is pleased to announce that qualified applicants who have obtained or are on the verge of completing their undergraduate degree and who wish to study for a Master's degree are welcome to apply for the OFID Scholarship 2013. The OFID Scholarship will be awarded to support students or candidates for Master’s degree studies. The applicant must be from a developing country, and he/she must first obtain admission to pursue a Master's (graduate) degree in any recognized university/college in the world. The Scholarship is open to those students who wish to pursue studies in a relevant field of Development or Energy Studies.

The Yara Prize 2013-For A Green Revolution in Africa
As part of the company’s centennial celebration in 2005 – and in response to the call for an African Green Revolution – Yara launched its prize to recognize outstanding contributions to African agriculture. In 2013, the Yara Prize will have a specific focus on young women and men who are making a particular effort within agriculture paying particular attention to innovation and entrepreneurship.

Lost Generation by Jonathan Reed

I am not a big fan of poems, but the Lost Generation by Jonathan Reed really inspires me. I first came across it during an AIESEC meeting in 2010 through a video. It made me reflect on the purpose of my existence in this world. Do I want to accept things as they are and say and there is nothing I can do about it? Or do I want to make a change, and create a world that is worth living in?

How I survived two weeks without internet


The last two weeks have been one of the hardest times I have had in years. Of course, I did not lose a job or someone close, but I did not have internet at home (for some unknown reasons, that I still fail to understand). Well, many would say that I am exaggerating, but trust me, I am not. Being a social media enthusiast, you don't really realise how much you are dependent on the internet until you experience it.
